The scene is a colorful marketplace of “all things gardening” with a focus on sustainable and water-wise practices. Most noteworthy, we have assembled a group of highly respected speakers on a variety of exciting talks. (Schedule posted at the bottom of the page)  Finally, our kids activities corner, food and drink booths and music will round out the picture and make it a fun and memorable day.
As mentioned, the Fair has moved to the Monterey Peninsula. The gardening education event will be held at Carmel Crossroads Shopping Village at the corner of Rio Road and Highway 1 in Carmel.  This State Parks property provides plenty of parking and is close to the ocean, quaint shops and lovely Carmel.

There are many different products available today to plant and place on walls. The materials vary from ceramics, plastics, and metals to more natural and sustainable materials. The degree of sophistication also varies widely from how they mount on walls and how they are watered.
Robin Stockwell is the owner, grower, and manager of Succulent Gardens and has been working with succulent plants since 1972. Robin has been active in the nursery industry as a grower and retailer working with other retailers, growers, and landscape professionals for over 40 years. www.sgplants.com

* Cal Staminov - From the Garden to the Table
The joys of eating homegrown organic vegetables isn’t just for the home chef.  As the head chef of the Marinus at Bernardus,  and an avid gardener, Cal Staminov will address the ways to grow a potage garden to create fresh and creative meals in a professional way.  He will discuss the ways by which to create one’s own French country kitchen garden.
Chef Cal Stamenov has created an innovative culinary concept for Bernardus Lodge featuring California country cuisine in the main dining room, Marinus at Bernardus Lodge. Cal’s philosophy and style of cooking, is built on three central pillars: the relationship between food and terroir, the superiority of handcrafted, artisanal products over mass-produced, and the common sense of glorifying food when its flavor is at its peak. He deeply values his relationships with local farmers and fisherman and has his own organic herb and vegetable gardens at Bernardus Lodge. With a treasure trove of impeccable products, Stamenov is able to cook with the seasons and rarely has to look further than his own backyard for inspiration.

* Casey Lyon and Cooper Scollan - Water Features in the Garden
Water gardening is an exiting style of gardening. It offers a great opportunity for growing a rich diversity of plants that cannot otherwise be cultivated in the garden and provides important habitat for our wildlife.  Planned correctly it can be fully compatible with our limited water resources. There are no limits to the shapes, forms and sizes to choose from: be it a formal pond, containers, waterfalls, fountains or a creek.  Many of these features can be easily installed and built by the garden owner.

Casey Lyon, Founder and Sole Proprietor of Habitat Gardens, is a leading expert in Native Gardens and Green Roof technologies.  Trained at California Polytechnic San Luis Obispo with a degree in Horticulture that focused on Restoration Ecology, he has built over 150 native gardens and living roofs while collaborating with the best landscape architects and designers in his field. He has won several awards for his living roofs and has had his gardens featured in Garden Design Magazine and Gardens Illustrated.
Cooper Scollan has been directly involved in over 40 green roof projects throughout California, including the design, grow-out and installation of the California Academy of Sciences living roof and ground plane. Cooper’s work has been highlighted in the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Pacific Coast Nurseryman magazine, Monterey County Herald as well as in documentaries on the Discovery Channel, Sundance, Good Morning America, Big Ideas for a Small Planet and the Science channel.

* Aaron Dillon - Harvesting California Gold in your Backyard: Everything you need to know for success with citrus in your garden.

Aaron Dillon represents the Fourth Generation at Four Wind Growers. Four Winds Growers is a wholesale nursery specializing in dwarf citrus and a wide range of easy-to-grow edible ornamentals that are both beautiful and abundant.  Aaron is passionate about teaching people to create productive and sustainable edible landscapes in any home garden, big or small.
