Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the Water-Smart Garden Contest

Q1. What are the prizes?

A. We're still working on that! Some prizes will be in garden-related goods or services, some will be in cash and all will be good to receive. We will also provide a plaque or certificate to commermorate each winning garden.

Q2. Who are the judges?

A. The judging teams will include Master Gardeners and water conservation specialists from the participating local water agecies. There will be a separate team of judges for each contest area: Northern Santa Cruz County, Southern Santa Cruz County, and Monterey County.

Q3. Will the Monterey Bay Master Gardeners and the water agencies hold another Water-Smart Garden Contest next year?

A. We probably will, because water shortages are certain to continue and there is an urgent need for our gardens to be water-smart. If your garden is not ready for this year's contest, right now is the time to start preparing for next year's contest. A good way to pick up water-smart gardening ideas is to check out the winning gardens during the 2008 Water-Smart Garden Tour, August 9th and 10th.
