Announcing the 2008 Smart Gardening Faire

The Smart Gardening Faire was a great success in 2006 and 2007, so we´re going to do it again! The Monterey Bay Master Gardeners will hold the third Smart Gardening Faire on June 21, 2008, in Scotts Valley´s Skypark. Mark your calendar: that´s the first day of summer in 2008.

The Faire will again be a free admission, educational event about "Smart Gardening," which suggests sustainable gardening and landscaping for home gardeners. Our theme for this year, "The Water-Wise Garden," focuses our thoughts on water conservation during this drought year.

The Faire will include several components:

A series of speakers addressing aspects of Smart Gardening (Click here for a list of speakers);
Expert demonstrations of smart gardening practices (Click here for a list of exhibitors);
Announcement of the winners of the Monterey Bay Master Gardeners' 2008 Water-smart Garden Contest (Click here for the Faire's schedule of speakers and special events)
Informative and educational exhibits, and sales of goods and services, conducted by local groups in exhibit tents clustered on Skypark´s grassy fields;
Activities for children and families;
Vendors of healthful food and entertainment to add to the festive atmosphere.

We welcome both not-for-profit and for-profit groups to bring their unique views and special expertise to this local educational effort.

All participating organizations will be Smart Gardening Faire Partners, emphasizing the each group`s participation in the Faire´s educational mission. Partners also are welcome to offer plants and garden-related items for sale.

The size of the Faire´s audience will reflect the number of Partners, so we urge you to join us in making the Faire a successful event. We will offer ideas for additional ways that your group could contribute to the Faire´s success. Meanwhile, think of how your group could use the Faire to present its message, recruit new members, or raise funds or connect with new clients. And, if you have ideas for improving the Faire, let us know!
